First Ph.D is awarded from the Department
to
Mrs. S. Sudharani 

Mrs. Sagili Sudharani is awarded with Ph.D (Full-time, Regular) from the Department of Folklore and Tribal Studies of Dravidian University for her Thessis titled “The Folk Narrative of Diasporic Telugu Women in Tamilnadu”. She did her research under the guidance of Prof. Pulikonda Subbachary (Former Dean of Academic Affairs and present Chairman of BOS). She analyzed the life of Diasporic society reflected in the folk narrative, particularly how women gave a vent to their feelings in their narrative which are narrated in various social and religious contexts. The research is totally depended on first hand material collected from field. She did field research in, around 200 hundred villages of 16 districts of Tamilnadu taking from Kanyakumari to Krishnagiri districts. The research received a high ranking remarks from the experts and experienced researchers.  

The Telugu Diaspora in Tamil Nadu is having a long history. Telugus settled there from the time immemorial. Many folk songs and folktales revealed the nature of their migration and the history of various castes in this process is care fully analysed in this book. 

Incidentally it happens to be the first Ph.D that is awarded from the Department. Shortly this book is going to be published.

  3. Your article misses out on Telugu Mulakanadu Brahmins resettled in Cheranmahadvi(Thirunelveli District).They initially came to that place, at the behest of local Kings to perform Vedic rituals.
